The Crystal, 8" Beaded Edge Berry Bowl
The Crystal, 4 1/2" Beaded Edge Berry Bowl
The Crystal, 9", Pitcher,
All of the pieces listed above have been reproduced. Below are some helpful
hints to help you discern the differences between the newly reproduced items
and the originals.
1. Crystal, 9", Pitcher
This is real easy to spot and there are many differences between the Original
and the Newest Reproductions. I will name a few differences that should help
in discerning new from the old.
On the original, the mold seam is very prevalent on the outside of the handle,
on the underside of the handle, and also on the pitcher it's self under the
handle. It has the rough mold seam line just like all of the originals have.
The reproduction virtually has no mold seam line on the handle, top or bottom
of handle. And virtually NONE under the handle on the body of the pitcher it's
self. And opposite that mold seam line on the front of the pitcher where the
spout is there's no mold seam to speak of either. It's very, very faint, almost
non-existent.
The reproduction is also taller at the spout, measuring 8 9/16". Measuring
from bottom of foot to inside edge of the lip of the spout. Original measures
8 5/16 ths" measuring the exact same way. When an original pitcher and
a reproduction are put spout to spout, the reproduction spout will fit right
over the top of the original spout. It will lay over top of it almost perfectly
and still be sitting flat on the surface in which you have them sitting
The distance from top lip or rim of pitcher at the handle, to the outside edge
of the spout is also different, on both the reproduction and the original. The
reproduction measures 6 5/16", and the original measure’s 6 9/16".
On the reproduction the spout doesn't stick out as far as on the original.
The rays on the underside of the foot on the reproduction are very defined,
and somewhat sharp to the touch, just like on the 6 1/2" ice tea tumbler.
On the original, the rays are very rounded and smooth. Also, looking at the
foot from the outside, on the reproduction, the rays appear to make what looks
like a very jagged edge. Kind of looks like cogs on a gear. On the original,
the rays end in a very smooth and perfectly rounded end. Looks like very long
skinny flower leaves with perfectly rounded tips that almost come to a point,
but not quite.
The reproduction weighs approximately 3.4 lbs. While the original weighs approximately 3.7 lbs. This is unusual, because most reproduction pieces in this pattern are heavier than the originals. (Your scale may weigh them at different weights, especially if you have a Digital Scale. But know that there's at least a 3 oz difference between the two.
2. Crystal, 8", and 4 1/2" Beaded Edge Berry Bowl:
These are a little more complicated, and the main difference is very subtle,
but very noticeable once you know what to look for. On the original, looking
into the bowl from the topside, look in the very bottom middle of the bowl and
you will see the ray pattern. On the original, there's ‘NO’ circle
connecting the ray pattern at all around the outer edges of the points of the
rays. On the reproduction, there's definitely a circle connecting the ray pattern,
which is very easily seen. Especially when looking at the bowl from the outside
of the bowl. Also, the tips of the rays on the originals are very rounded. And
on the reproduction, the tips of the rays are much more pointed. I've included
two photos of the reproduction for you to see how the circle looks from both
sides.

Attention:
I just recently discovered that during the 50's a glassware company named, "Australia
Crown Crystal Glass Co" produced an iris and herringbone look alike. They
produced an iris butter dish and lid, the creamer, the sugar bowl and lid, in
the crystal color. They possibly produced some colored pieces also, because
I've been seeing the creamer, sugar bowl and lid, in pink, green, blue, yellow,
and red in recent years which I have mention in my past findings. I'm pretty
sure that the Australia Crown Crystal Glass Co produced the colored Aussie iris
as well. The colored iris has the same exact pattern on it that the crystal
color has that was produced by the Australia Crown Crystal Glass Co. If you
happen to have an sugar bowl and a lid that don't fit each other properly, then
you possibly might have one of Crown's pieces mixed in with one of Jeannette's
pieces, because they don't fit one another properly.
I had a collector e-mail me about a year ago, and asked me if I knew why one of his sugar lids wouldn't fit his sugar bowl. At the time I had no idea. But now I know why after this latest discovery. Crown’s butter dish and lid do not fit the Jeannette produced iris either. I can confirm this 100% now, since I own all of Crowns crystal pieces.
Below are photos of the pieces that the Australia Crown Crystal Glass Co produced:
