Great Northeast Depression Era Glass and China Show Westchester County Center White Plains, New York
If you missed the Great Northeast Depression Era Glass and China Show in White Plains, New York on August 8 and 9, 1998, you missed the largest show in the country. Fifty eight separate booths made the Westchester County Center an extraordinary sight. Authors Kelly O'Kane, Gene Florence, Kent Washburn and Kenn and Margaret Whitmyer were on hand to sign books and greet the over 2500 customers who attended this Showtime North of Broadway.
The Old Morgantown Glass Guild had a membership and information booth, as did the National Cambridge Collector's Inc. The Cambridge club also took badly needed donations for the clean up of the NCC Museum following the flooding of June 28, 1998.
The glass on display for sale was an awesome sight. Ask Diane Brouhle, a dealer from New Jersey, about the woman who was so overwhelmed by the sight of all the glassware, she almost fainted! Collectors from all across the United States and Canada, including several chartered bus groups, came to see what was offered for sale and were not disappointed. From Fire King to Cambridge, from Morgantown to Fenton, from Franciscan pottery to Farber Brothers, there was something for everyone. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better...IT DID!
Some of the spectacular pieces offered to the public included a Cameo Green center handled sandwich server, Miss America Pink 5 part relish, Fenton Mosaic and other free hand glass, a Green Floral vase, and many more rare and unusual pieces of Depression and Elegant glassware.
From the club displays, to the dealers, to the customers, everything was a glowing success. It was truly the World Series of glass shows.
